The Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) located in Wellington, Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu trains officers of the Indian Armed Forces and officers from friendly foreign countries. A few civil service officers and paramilitary officers also receive training here. In preparing officers for staff positions, it is considered the think tank of the defence establishment.

The college began as the Army Staff College in Nashik in 1905, from where it was relocated to Quetta in Pakistan. After Independence and partition, The Defence Services Staff College was founded in Wellington. It has the owl as its mascot. Located in the picturesque Nilgiri Hills, Wellington is named after the British general who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.
